Dear Poets & Poetry Lovers,
“Guys Reading Poems” is a film about a little boy who uses poetry to survive being locked in a box. We are now a movement empowering everyday people to escape their own “box” through poetry.
On the first Thursday of every month, we provide a space for poets and non-poets alike to get together to read original or public domain poetry. And each month, we choose one poem as our “Special Featured Poem” and three others as “Featured Poems” and release them on our YouTube channel. This month, we’ve chosen “Millennium” by Elena Secota, who captures a fleeting moment of hope for the entire world…and fortifies it. Watch:
The audio and still imagery of the remaining poems from our open mic night will be released on our Facebook page and Instagram feed. Please support our movement by subscribing to this channel and sharing the content you feel your own audience may enjoy.
Our next open mic night is Thursday, February 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at Shaky Alibi in Los Angeles (7401 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90036). The theme of February’s reading will be, “In Tribute To…” so please select a piece and dedicate your poem to someone special in your life. To reserve a spot in the lineup, you must rsvp by texting “rsvp” to 424.34.POEMS. Due to time limitations, each poet may read only one poem running less than three minutes. There is a limit of 20 readers per night and we do fill up, so please sign up in advance. If you are put on a waitlist for February, you will be guaranteed a spot for the next available month.
Together, we will show the world that it is creative expression that can heal the individual psyche and bring communities together for the greater good.
Sincerely,
Hunter Lee Hughes
